BSW-300 Smart Valve Positioner

Overview
The BSW300 Intelligent Valve Positioner is a smart two-wire field instrument introduced by Lianyungang Boshangde Automatic Control Equipment Co., Ltd. As a control component for pneumatic valves, this positioner is widely used in automatic control systems across industries such as chemicals, petroleum, metallurgy, light industry, and power generation.
This smart valve positioner receives a 4–20 mA valve position signal from the control system and uses A/D conversion to obtain the valve position setpoint; at the same time, it uses a position sensor to determine the actual valve position.
Feedback signal; both signals are processed by the control software to control the operation of the pneumatic actuator, thereby driving the valve position to the set value (as shown in Figure 2-1).
Figure 2-1: Schematic Diagram of the Smart Locator
This intelligent valve positioner is a high-performance device based on microprocessor technology. It effectively overcomes friction and unbalanced forces on the valve plug, thereby improving the response speed of the control valve.
, ensuring rapid and accurate positioning. Not only can it replace traditional electric/pneumatic valve positioners, but it can also be directly connected via the HART protocol to facilitate information exchange with network and control systems. This intelligent valve positioner complies with GB 3836.1-2010 “Explosive Atmospheres—Part 1: General Requirements for Equipment,” GB 3836.4-2010 “Explosive Atmospheres—Part 4: Equipment Protected by Intrinsic Safety,” and GB 3836.20-2010 “Explosive Atmospheres—Part 20: Equipment with Protection Level (EPL) Ga.” Its explosion-proof marking is ExiaHC 4T–T6 Ga, and it is suitable for Zone 0, Zone 1, or Zone 2 environments within plants where explosive mixtures of flammable gases or vapors with air exist, classified as IA–IIC and T1–T16 groups. This product has been tested and approved by a nationally accredited certification body for explosion-proof electrical products and has obtained an explosion-proof certificate of conformity.

Lightning Protection Features
With advances in technology, intelligent valve positioners have gradually evolved toward greater intelligence and bus-based systems. Consequently, the use of highly integrated components has become inevitable, resulting in a decrease in the equipment’s pressure and overcurrent resistance, as well as reduced resistance to lightning strikes. In the event of a lightning strike, these components are easily damaged, causing the positioner to fail. If the associated control valve is used at critical process control points or in locations with high safety requirements, the sudden failure of the positioner could likely result in loss of process control or trigger a production safety incident. Conventional smart valve positioners offer no protection against high currents and overvoltages entering through wires, making them susceptible to damage from lightning strikes and posing a hidden hazard to production safety. To address this shortcoming, the BSW600 smart valve positioner offers an optional lightning protection circuit, enabling it to function as a valve positioner with lightning protection capabilities.
Figure 2-2: Block Diagram of the Principle of a Lightning-Protected Smart Valve Positioner
1. Lightning protection is not included as standard equipment; it is an optional feature during product selection;
2. When using a lightning protection locator, grounding must be performed in accordance with relevant national standards;
3. When the device is equipped with lightning protection, an insulation withstand voltage test must not be performed.

Selected Parameters
List of Positioner Parameters
Parameter names are shown in both printed text and on-screen display formats. The “Function” column provides a brief description of each parameter’s function, along with its value, physical unit, and factory-set value.
1. YFCT
Actuator Types
Actuator Selection: Linear-travel actuator (WAY)
Angular-Travel Actuator (TURN)
YFCT = WAY. Thus, the nonlinearity resulting from the linear conversion to angular displacement is compensated by the positioner.
2. YAGL
Converting Potentiometer Values Between Positive and Negative:
If 1YFCT=TURN is selected, the rotation angle of the rotary actuator is automatically set to 90 degrees.
If you select 1YFCT=WAY, a linear-travel actuator, you can set the values to 33 or 90, depending on the valve stroke and the mounting distance of the feedback rod pivot.
□ 33 Stroke ≤ 20 mm: For valves that are air-to-open or air-to-close, when performing a manual initialization, the valve begins to operate when air is supplied, and the angle display value should increase from a smaller to a larger value. If the opposite occurs, change it to 90.
□ 90 Stroke > 20 mm: When the valve is air-to-open or air-to-close, and manual initialization is used, the valve begins to operate when air is supplied, and the angle display value should increase from a smaller to a larger value. If the opposite occurs, change the setting to 33.

Initialization (Automatic)
If you select “strt” and pressIf the key is held down (>5 seconds), automatic initialization begins. The initialization process displays “RUN1” through “RUN5”; when the “FINSH” symbol appears, continue pressingPress the 5S key to exit.
5. INITM

□ When “YENDL” appears, pressKey: Drive the valve to the fully closed position;
□ Tap “”After that, “YEND2” is displayed";
□ Press “ ”Move the control valve to the open position;"
□ Tap “ ”After that, the process from “RUN3” to “RUN5”;"
When the “FINSH" symbol appears, continue pressing " ”Press the 5S button to exit."
6. SCUR
Verify the input current value; this option must be enabled in item 47.
7. SDIR
The “Set Value Direction” setting is used to specify the direction in which the setpoint is adjusted. It is primarily used for split-range operations and for actuators that function in the "UP" direction when set to "UP."
8. SPRA
Setting the starting point for stage-by-stage control (see Fig. 1).
See 7.SDIR.
9. SPRE
Setting the starting point for stage-by-stage control (see Fig. 1).
Parameters “7.SPRA” and “8.SPRE,” together with parameter “6.SDIR,” are used to limit the valid setting range. This allows range splitting to be accomplished using characteristic curves.

10. TUSP
Set the slope.
The setpoint slope is effective in automatic mode and when limiting the rate of change of the effective setpoint. When the instrument switches from manual to automatic mode, the setpoint slope ensures that the effective setpoint matches the setpoint displayed on the instrument. Seamless switching between manual and automatic modes prevents overpressure in long pipelines. When TS is set to AUTO, the initial double execution time is determined by the setpoint slope.
11. TSDO
12. SFCT
Setpoint Function (see Fig. 2).
Using this feature linearizes the valve's nonlinear characteristics, and any flow characteristic can be simulated on the valve's linearized characteristic curve.
The instrument stores the characteristic curves for two types of valves.
□ Quick-opening equal-percentage valve n1-33 (12SFCT=1-33)
□ Quick-opening equal percentage n1-50 (12SFCT=1-50)
Setpoint inflection points can only be entered when 12SFCT=FREE.

Fig. 2 Setpoint Characteristics, Standard Control Variables, and Shutdown Functions
34. DEBA
Controller Dead Zone
When dEbA = AUto, the deadband typically meets the requirements of the control loop in automatic mode. If, however, gradually increasing the detection deadband range results in oscillations, the deadband used for other range-switching controls is reduced by adjusting the time criterion; this setting is typically a constant.
35. YA
Lower Limit of Operating Variables (see Figs. 2 and 3)
36. YE
Upper Limit of Operating Variables (see Figs. 2 and 3)
Using parameters 35.YA and 36.YE, the mechanical stroke (from stop to stop) is limited to the set value. Using this method, the correct mechanical stroke of the actuator can be restricted to the effective flow range, and the effects of integrator saturation can be avoided.
37.YNRM
Standard Operating Variables (see Figs. 2 and 3)
Using YA and YE, the operating variables are limited to produce two different scale displays (MPOS and FLOW) and provide position feedback via the output current. The MPOS scale indicates mechanical position (0 to 100%); the parameters YA and YE are not valid here. The MPOS scale displays the parameters YA and YE.
The flow scale between YA and YE is standard (0 to 100%). The setpoint W (0 to 100%) is always relative to this range. This results in the display and position feedback JY being more or less proportional to the flow (even when using the valve’s characteristic curve). To calculate the system deviation, the setpoint is also displayed on the corresponding scale.
38.YDIR
Route Direction Display
Used to set the direction of the action (increase or decrease).

Fig. 3 shows an 80-mm linear-stroke actuator, illustrating the relationship between the standard stroke and the YA and YE values.
39. YCLS
The ”Closed-Form Function” of Operational Variables (see Fig. 2)
Using this function, the valve can reach its maximum open position (by keeping the piezoelectric valve contacts energized); the fully closed function can be applied to the positioning of single-output or dual-output actuators. YCLS is activated when the setpoint is less than 0.5% or greater than 99.5%.
When the YA and YE setpoint ranges are set to 0–100%, the action point for the flow-based shut-off function can be set to a lower value using YA and to a higher value using YE.

Troubleshooting

Operational Issues and Maintenance
Maintenance and Care
The positioner is a field instrument and should be maintained and serviced regularly. The air supply to the positioner must be kept dry and clean. Periodically drain water and remove contaminants from the pressure regulating valve used in conjunction with the positioner to prevent them from entering the positioner and affecting its normal operation.
The feedback connection components of the positioner may become loose due to prolonged operation; therefore, you should periodically check whether the threads are loose. If any looseness is detected, tighten them immediately and determine whether to perform an initialization based on the magnitude of the deviation at the zero and full-scale positions.
To make it easier to check whether the positioner is operating properly, keep the air supply and the output pressure gauge clean.
Maintenance and servicing of the explosion-proof components of the positioner shall be performed in accordance with relevant national regulations.
